XNA Developers Able to Charge for Games
8:28 PM EST by Hairy Scary Man
As indie developers continue to grow in number, more services are cropping up to allow them to share their wares. Now Microsoft's XNA kit, which allows developers to create games for XBLA, allows those developers to charge for their games. There will be three price points for games, and the price point limits the size of the game. Developers will receive 70% of the cost. Professional developers can also release games through the community system, so delisted games may crop up there. The community system will go live with the fall 360 update.
Games for Windows Multiplayer Now Free

Microsoft announced Tuesday that its Games for Windows service would now be completely free. Previously gamers had to pay for the gold subscription, which allows for cross-platform play (PC vs Xbox 360), matchmaking, achievements, and more. Microsoft also announced plans to introduce a marketplace to GfW, like the one found on the 360. The changes come after Microsoft listened to its customers (a first maybe?). Customers who paid for a gold subscription will be refunded.
